Graphic Novel

•A graphic novel is a full length science fiction or fantasy story that published as a book in as comic book strip format.That was according to the Oxford English Dictionary.Many Resources included originated the term with publication of graphic novel in 1978.Graphic novel has an umbrella definition for all the graphic novel taken over the years.the length of the comic books that are meant to be read as a one story including collection of stories in genres such as mystery, superhero, or super natural that are meant to be read appart from their corresponding ongoing comic book story and it was said by Stephen Weiner

•Is a graphic novel more than just a mere comic?In Scott McClouds graphic novel exploration of the medium states that the comics are just a posed pictorial and other imaged in deliberate sequence . So that graphic novel is a big comic book that needed a book mark. The two elements that defined graphic novel was been said by the writer of the only Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel ,Maus and declares as a comic Scholar by Robert C. Harvey. These are the

Doodle Fiction

•A literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle drawings and hand written graphics in place of traditional font. Drawings enhance the story, often adding humorous elements that would be missing if the illustrations were omitted.

•Doodling starts at 40,000 years ago,Cave man use stones and sticks to draw abstract patterns, human hands and wild animals, those doodling found in a cave in France and Spain, Around 3200 b.c the artwork advanced from cave walls into clay tablets.

•Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a series of fiction books written by the American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney.All the main books are the journals of the main character, Greg Heffley. Befitting a teen’s diary, the books are filled with simple drawings of Greg’s daily adventures.

•Dork Diaries is a children’s book series written and illustrated by Rachel Renée Russell.
The series, written in a diary format, uses drawings, doodles, and comic strips to chronicle the daily life of its 14-year-old protagonist, Nikki Maxwell, in and outside of middle school.


Mangga


•Manga is a known comic book that originated from Japan back to the 12th and 13th centuries and was named in 1798 by Santō Kyoden’s Shiki no Yukikai. It is usually black and white in color unlike the american comic books that are full of colors. But then, colored prints are sometimes used, only for special releases.

Most of the manga series are very long and had multiple volumes. It is read from right to left instead of left to right which is the normal type of reading in most books. It is also turned into anime series or movie as long as the series is popular enough to attract the audience.

•Manga has its own elements, structures and types that make it more unique and interesting;

ELEMENTS OF MANGA

  1. Picture- serves as the manga’s expression.
  2. Words- inside voice of the subject
  3. Speech balloon- container of the inside voice
  4. frame- container of the picture as well as the content.

STRUCTURE OF MANGA

  1. Panels,graphics and symbols that indicates movement and sound, tactile qualities, and emotional states of the characters.
  2. Graphic onomatopoeia that expresses auditory and tactile information.
  3. Qualities of texture and non-linguistic graphic symbols that represents the characters’ movements.
  4. Speech balloons that develop dialogues.
  5. Variation of panels in size, shape, and number that creates a literacy effect of a grammatical block analogous to a conventional sentence.

TYPES OF MANGA

  • Shonen: Manga targeted at tween and teen boys. It feature lots of action and comedy.
  • Shojo: Manga targeted at tween and teen girls. It is less on action but more on drama, emotion, and idealized romance.
  • Seinen: Manga targeted at adult men (18+). It is more on action and violence but more on serious and contains adult context like sexual situations and foul languages.
  • Josei: Manga targeted at adult women (18+). It features lot of mature scenes exploring sexual fantasies and romantic relationships.
  • Kodomomuke: Manga targeted at young children. It often shows cuteness, moral lessons and fun adventures for young children.

An example of manga. It is a Japanese fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Nakaba Suzuki. It follows the adventure of Elizabeth, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, and her search for the seven deadly sins. With their help, she endeavors to not only take back her kingdom from the Holy Knight, but also seek justice in an unjust world.
